Meet our Massage Therapist

Updated: Oct 18, 2018

Meet Art Kent:

Art has been a licensed massage therapist since 1990. That’s a lot of accumulated knowledge over the past 28 years! For the past 18 years Art has been with The Sastun Center of Integrative Health Care where his practice has focused on chronic and acute pain. He has created treatments that blend several styles of work into a session focused on the needs of that day's visit.

A session may start out looking like a structural integration (SI) session and flow into a Craniosacral or Energy work. Art uses an intuitive approach, utilizing the listening skills learned through years of hands on practice, the ability to sense feedback from the client’s body and follow the lines of tension through the fascial network. This is a skill that takes hours of hands on practice, a skill that requires patience and a deep understanding of the human body.

CranioSacral is a light touch technique that works with the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid. Cerebrospinal fluid is a clear, colorless body fluid found in the brain and spinal cord. It bathes the brain and spine in nutrients and eliminates waste products. It also cushions them to help prevent injury in the event of trauma. During the session Art uses his hands to palpate and “listen” for restrictions in the cerebrospinal system. When a restriction is located he uses techniques to help reduce and release the restricted area. This results in more relaxation, mind body balance, as well as assistance in resetting the body's own self-healing mechanism.

CranioSacral is performed fully clothed. The client lies on the treatment table while his hands are lightly placed in order to feel the rhythms in different areas. In a general, CranioSacral helps to restore balance and harmony back to the body. It does this by working on the core level of the nervous system, so to work with the body's own inner intelligence to alleviate, re-harmonize and repair old traumas and chronic conditions that were previously accepted as the norm. It allows you to feel more relaxed and in touch with your body and thus creating a space for self healing.

CranioSacral therapy is often used as part of a complementary treatment plan developed in conjunction with doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, and acupuncturists, among others.

CranioSacral can be beneficial for:

· Chronic pain in the neck, back, or spine
